Steve Poltz is back in Australia after a four year absence, bringing with him great new songs from his Stardust and Satellites release and his truty guitar, Smokey Joe. Steve is more than just a singer/songwriter – he’s a brilliant storyteller, comedian, entertainer and lover of the Hook Turn. He joins me in the studio for a chat and some tracks ahead of his performances at the National Folk Festival and Bluesfest. I’ve been patiently waiting for the debut EP from Harry Cook, (his gorgeous track All Flaws with vocalist/composer Hannah Cameron a real favourite of mine last year) to arrive and it’s finally here. Five quite diverse tracks that leaves a gentle, intimate impression. Harry Cook draws on his diverse experience as a classical pianist, jazz improviser, and contemporary sessional musician for The Teskey Brothers, WILSN and more to tell evocative stories through song.
