The Blackeyed Susans are a much loved Australian group. They formed in Perth in 1989 and have recently released their first album in more than a decade, a beautifully atmospheric collection of songs called Close Your Eyes and See. The album takes its title from the opening line of this track, with lyrics ‘Close your eyes and see / The darkness holds a light inside of me.’ There’s a wistful world weariness to this collection, I chat with band members Rob Snarski, J.P.Shiloh and Phil Kakulas about the release and they perform some songs for us. As well, chamber pop from Brent Cash and Bill DeMain and the tale of two Cleas.
