Benjamin Finger has been composing music with a healthy disregard for genres since 2007. His palette moves between psych-collages, droned out-jams, piano miniatures, classical minimalism, off-kilter pop, and an occasional stab at garbled dance music. Featuring an album I’ve been enjoying in self-isolation – or – as a “Desert Islander” – the Debut album by Anthony Heubel & The High Lonesome Band. Heubel, formerly of the punk band Run Forever (Tiny Engines), has gone country with his latest effort, marking a sea change for his songwriting. The blurb says this is “traditional country music imbued with a punk rock spirit that goes great with an IPA, a plaid shirt, and a sleeve of tattoos!” Can’t argue with it! Plus I pay tribute to John Prine, who in the early ’90s changed my mind about Country Music.

I hope you can support this incredible new release, Healing Sounds II: A compilation for those in need’. 49 gorgeous ambient works from some of Quiet Space’s favourite composers – for an excellent cause. All proceeds will be donated to Feeding America. Feeding America is a nationwide organization that harnesses support from local communities to keep low-income families supplied with food. Right now, its biggest concern is children whose schools have closed, cutting off a source of healthy, free meals. A stunning soothing collection for troubled times.
